Artificial intelligence in the service of the book

This year, Literacka became a partner in the project ” Artificial intelligence in the service of books ” co-financed by Norwegian funds under the “Culture” Program from the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021. The project leader is the Raczyński Library , the partners are Literacka Sp. z o. o., the City of Poznań, NORLA (Norwegian Literature Abroad), The Book Institute (implementation period: 01/10/2020 – 30/09/2022).

The project consists in building competences among managers and employees of public libraries in the field of innovative methods of selecting and purchasing new items for libraries, cataloging and sharing library resources, innovative methods of recommending literature readers on the basis of their expectations and the content of borrowed and purchased books, and the use of a network of book machines in districts with low availability of libraries.

As part of the Literacka project, she is responsible for building a new publishing recommendation system for librarians. The system will allow for faster analysis of new books and will be connected with the purchasing system. This way, new books will be delivered to the Library as quickly as they will be to bookstores. In approx. A recommendation system will be implemented in 40 libraries of the Greater Poland Voivodeship, which will “tell” the reader what books they can borrow, based on the analysis of the existing data. In addition, as part of the new publishing purchase system, the process of notifying about book return dates, improvements in the payment for keeping books, the process of borrowing with the PEKA card, implementation of analytical tools enabling “better understanding” of the reader will be optimized. In addition, the project will include a pilot program for the use of book machines, i.e. borrowing at the reader’s request (SMS / e-mail) and returning books using special devices (order-pick-up-return). The system is built in such a way that it can be offered by us as a ready product for other libraries in Poland.
