October 29, 2020 at the Provincial Public Library in Olsztyn, the ceremony of presenting the sixteenth Literary Laurel was held.
The Chapter of the Warmia and Mazury Literary Award selected five finalists. These are the publications of authors from our region that appeared on the publishing market in 2019.
Five books have been nominated for the 2019 WAWRZYN Award:
“Beginning, ending, hot dogs” by Kacper Kotulak,
“Gigus” by Jakub Michalczeni,
“Knife in the Back, or Memories of Musicians” by Bogdan Pniewski,
“My Crow River” by Stanisław Raginiak,
“In the ear of memory” by Andrzej Zubkowicz.
This edition of the award ceremony was unlike any other. Not only thanks to the on-line award ceremony. This year, for the first time, each of the nominated authors received a prepared text analysis with the use of artificial intelligence algorithms as a gift.
The winner of WAWRZYN 2019 was Bogdan Pniewski for his book Knife in the Back, or Memories of Musicians. On the other hand, the Readers’ award went to Mr. Andrzej Zubkowicz for “In the ear of memory”. Both items were subjected to text analysis in terms of, inter alia, keywords, recognition of parts of speech, plot features, and the number of sentences, words and characters in the text. The information presented is not only a curiosity, but also a unique tool that can be used by authors of books and publishers in their daily work.
Congratulations to all the winners!
