BLEF is a literary competition for a sensational micro-novel. The duel has been organized since last year by the Duży Format Foundation. This is the first such literary competition in Poland, and the second in Europe, in which the submitted works will also be assessed by … AI!
Artificial intelligence will choose a potential bestseller
The juror is “made available” by the Literacka team. Fiona – because that’s the name of the virtual juror – reads books with dizzying speed and can use algorithms to spot advanced plot features. – Fiona is able to give reliable information on how well a given text fits certain literary categories. He is also great at assessing whether it meets the criteria of a crime fiction, i.e. whether it keeps you in suspense – explains Małgorzata Sieniewicz, president of Literacka. Our company has been working on the use of artificial intelligence on the book market for several years. a system of advanced book recommendations , in which the algorithms, based on the soft features of the plot, are able to recommend a reading suited to the taste and mood of the reader. – Our recommendation tool is used by a large number of readers on a daily basis. We decided to take advantage of this success and go a step further by creating a solution dedicated to creators – writers, self-publishers – but also publishers. This time we are working on algorithms that will significantly speed up the publishing process, assessing to what extent a given book has a chance of becoming a bestseller – reveals Urszula Witkowska from Literacka. Fiona is the nucleus of this portal. The juror will quickly examine the works submitted to the competition, and their authors will receive a detailed analysis of their work at the end of the competition. We will soon find out whether the selection of algorithms will turn out to be similar to the indications of literary scholars.
